Soldier and Police Clash Leaves 1 Dead, and 3 Others Injured in Ebonyi State
An artisan labourer was killed, while three others were injured during a confrontation between
a police officer and a soldier in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State
It was reported that the incident happened on Wednesday morning, being 20TH November, 2024 at 10:00HRS
in Ugwuachara Village, in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State.
According to an eye witness report, the police officers were reportedly conducting a routine stop and search
operation when they attempted searching a Soldier on a Motorcycle, which turned bloody.
During the search, the officers started struggling, and the soldier allegedly tried to disarm one of the police
officers. in the process of the struggling, a firm arm dischargerd it self and fired a stray bullet hitting a
by stander.
The victim who was identified as an artisan labourer, died out of the injury he sustained from the Soldier and Police Clash , while the other injured three
are currently receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University teaching hospital Abakaliki.
The Commissioner of Police in the state Ebonyi, Adaku Uche Anya confirmed the Soldier and Police Clash incident, saying that the artisan labourer standing near by was not purposely targeted.
The commissioner said:
“The soldier was trying to disarm one of the policemen when the bullet discharged and hit a bystander. It was not a case of the policemen opening fire on bystanders,” the CP stated.
“One person died, and three others are injured but are responding to treatment in hospital.
“We have identified the soldier, who is stationed in Kaduna. Both the soldier and the policemen involved are in our custody.”
